Holiday tunes

Musical xmas cats

Even though I’m not religious, I love Christmas music.

Since it’s only just over a week ’til Christmas (yes, believe it), I thought I’d share some of my fave Christmas tunes.

You’ll find an eclectic mix here. You won’t find choirs or crooning, though.

I’d love to share the music for free, but that’d be, ya know, illegal and all. I found some of the songs on last.fm, and I’ve included those links so you can listen to them there. One song can be downloaded for free, the haunting Huron Carol, sung in native Canadian Huron language by the Eskasoni Trio.

If the song is available on eMusic, I’ve linked it, because it’s cheaper to buy the songs (if you’re so inclined) from eMusic than iTunes. You can listen to 30-second clips on both sites. eMusic has an introductory offer where you can get 25 (if you’re in the UK) or 50 (in the US) tunes for free.

This list is by no means comprehensive, and there are a lot of Christmas faves missing (including some of my own faves).

But hopefully you will find some music here to put you in the holiday mood!

(And yes, apparently I really like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen!)

thanks for sharing the songs…buddy are you on lastfm?

wow – jethro tull really stood out to me.

  2. lastfm… no, just discovered the site. I gather you can create your own stations ‘n’ stuff.

  3. What a great list. Have a happy holiday season!

  4. Singing cats in festive hats!
    LOVE.IT.
And that’s quite the christmas playlist you have there! >:O)

  5. where is “rocking around the christmas tree”? I’m not sure of the real title. I find myself singing that all year round. though I only know a few lines.

I always same the same thing, “I’m not religious, but I celebrate xmas”. funny thing is that it’s not a christian holiday, it’s a pagan celebration of the winter solstice.

the pic reminded me that somewhere in the house I have a plastic xmas present that you plug in. when you turn it on, the lid opens and 3 cats inside start meowing out carols. amazingly they all have different sounding meows.

  6. ya, there are a lot of good ones that are not on the list. A couple of days ago, I opened to a knock on the door, and there were two young teenage girls, dressed in Santa’s elves costumes, who performed the entire “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” song, complete with choreographed moves. It was great… I only wished I’d taken a picture!
If you find the electric singing cats, you must post a photo!

  7. Oh Felicity! Thank you kindly for all your lovely comments!

How great that you have done most! I am envious. Perhaps one day we shall both jump into a lake together! Isn’t that such an odd sentence? lol

Brussels sprouts do ROCK! Cannot believe I would actually say this in this lifetime.
